May 29th, 2006: The last time a letter was read from the pulpit

1)

This first link is about the fiasco that came down in Washington around the May 29th, 2006 letter from the pulpit, which lead to my excommunication (which was subsequently vacated):

Note that Harry Reid was very critical of the church involvement, as was an LDS Salt Lake City newspaper columnist.

2)

The week after the letter was read over the pulpit, Jeffrey Nielsen, a BYU Professor, wrote a letter to the editor in Salt Lake City, with this consequence: He was fired!

As the dominoes stack up, members of the Orchestra at Temple Square (Peter & Mary Danzig) wrote a letter to protest the treatment of Jeffrey Nielsen, and the church suspended his membership in the Orchestra. After a year of defending their rights and the lack of justification for the disciplinary action, Brother Danzig and his wife resigned their membership in the church and gave up hope that the Mormon Church would allow them political freedom of choice.
